Working From Home? Give Your Coffee Break a Place of Its Own

Coffee guide hero image: coffee for Australian workplaces

You make a coffee, carry it back to your desk and open one more message. Half an hour later, the mug is cold and you cannot quite remember drinking it. Working from home makes coffee convenient. Taking an actual break can be a different matter.

You do not need an elaborate routine or a new set of accessories. A small change in where and how you drink your coffee can give the day a clearer rhythm.

Start by leaving the desk

Choose another spot for your cup: the kitchen bench, a chair near a window or a shaded patch outside. It does not have to be far away. The point is to stop treating your coffee as another object beside the keyboard.

If it helps, leave your phone on the desk for a few minutes. Look out of the window, have a snack or talk to whoever else is home. There is no requirement to turn your break into a useful activity.

Let the coffee fit the day you have

Some mornings leave time to grind beans and make an espresso. Others involve a delivery at the door, a meeting starting early and toast eaten standing up. Both kinds of morning deserve a coffee you enjoy.

Drizzly’s Speciality Instant Coffee suits the days when you want a straightforward cup without setting up brewing equipment. Follow the pack directions, use your favourite mug and add milk to taste. Convenience does not mean you have to drink it while answering emails.

If making coffee is something you enjoy, give that process a little space. Brew it the way you like and clean up the small bits as you go. A simple setup is easier to use on an ordinary Tuesday.

Keep your coffee corner small

A mug, your coffee and the equipment you actually use are enough. Store coffee sealed, away from heat and direct sunlight. Leave room for everyone else in the household to use the kitchen too.

Keeping the bench clear makes the next cup easier. It also stops a pleasant little habit from turning into another job that needs organising.

Choose the drink that suits you

You might enjoy regular coffee in the morning and something different later. If you want a decaf option, Pure Bliss Decaf is worth exploring for its milk chocolate, caramel and fruity tasting notes. There is no obligation to keep topping up the same mug all day.

Give the break an ending, too

When you have finished, rinse the cup and head back. A break does not need to be long, or happen at precisely the same time every day, to feel separate from work.

The aim is not a perfect routine. It is enjoying the coffee while it is still warm, in a moment that belongs to you rather than your inbox.
